Professor Polly Jones

Polly Jones is Schrecker-Barbour Fellow in Slavonic studies at University College, and a Professor in the Slavonic sub-faculty of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. Her main area of expertise lies in Soviet literature, culture and memory politics of the post-Stalin period, on which she has published two monographs and several edited volumes. She has more recently expanded her research into literature and memory politics of the contemporary period, including in her most recent book Gulag Fiction. Labour Camp Literature from Stalin to Putin (Bloomsbury, 2024). She has also been involved in a collaboration on Soviet spatial history with the Ukrainian historians Olena Stiazhkina and Tamara Vronska in recent years, and continues to host Ukrainian writers and academics at the Slavonic research seminar, which she co-convenes with Slavonic sub-faculty colleagues.
