Dr Schenk is Professor of Eastern European History at the University of Basel and Head of Ukrainian Research in Switzerland (URIS).
The academic initiative Ukrainian Research in Switzerland (URIS) is based at the Department of History of the University of Basel. The objectives of the initiative are to make a long-term contribution to furthering Ukrainian expertise in Switzerland, to foster the next generation of scholars, and to contribute to the international networks of Switzerland-based university research on Ukraine. URIS contributes to these objectives through the teaching and research of its Fellows, through regular events such as Ukrainian language courses, a Ukraine lecture series or summer schools in Ukraine.
