Dr Jonathon Turnbull

Postdoctoral Researcher in More-than-human Geography

Dr Jonathon Turnbull is a more-than-human geographer from Newcastle upon Tyne who lives between Oxford and Vinnytsia. He has been conducting ethnographic research in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since 2019, examining competing narratives regarding nature's return to the Zone. He is currently writing a monograph — Radioactive Resurgence — on this theme. In 2021, Jonny co-founded the Ukrainian Environmental Humanities Network with artists, curators, designers, activists, and researchers in Kyiv. The group curates artistic residences, organises public seminars, and produces publications on environmental themes. He co-founded the Oxford Ukraine Hub in 2024. He is also a Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College.
